The custom packaging production process explained: quotation, artwork, sampling, mass production, QC and shipping—and what to expect at each stage.

Ordering custom packaging can feel opaque if you have never been through it. This is exactly how the process works with a professional manufacturer, from your first email to the container arriving at your warehouse.

1. Quotation and specification

Share your product dimensions, quantity, material preference and target price. The supplier responds with a detailed quotation within 1–2 days, including unit price, tooling costs and lead time. Ask for a breakdown—paper, printing, finishing, labor and freight—so you can negotiate intelligently.

2. Artwork and pre-production sample

After order confirmation, artwork goes through a proofing cycle. Most buyers request a physical sample before mass production to verify size, print color and finish. We produce samples in 5–7 days, and you can see and feel the actual material rather than judging from a screen.

3. Mass production

Production typically takes 15–30 days depending on quantity and complexity. During production, request regular photos or video updates. A serious supplier shares progress without being asked. For large orders, third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas) can be arranged before shipment.

4. QC, packing and shipping

Finished goods are checked for size, color, structure and print alignment, then packed into export cartons with proper corner protection. Choose sea freight for large volumes, air for urgent orders. The supplier provides packing lists and documents for customs clearance.

What makes a supplier trustworthy

Look for: transparent process communication, written QC checklists, clear lead time commitments, and samples that match the production standard. If the sample is good, insist that the bulk matches it—check on arrival with the same criteria.
